Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

The staff had a great time for our annual Thanksgiving party which is our office pot luck followed by our staff helping to pack shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.  This year we increased our total shoebox count by nearly 50%.  We had a great time helping a great organization. 

CBJ Heavy Hitters Award - Barings

Barings, which is located within the 300 S. Tryon St building uptown, was awarded the CBJ Heavy Hitters award. Bloc Design provided the landscape architecture for the project for the rooftop courtyard which is part of the amenities of the office space.

Flashback to the 80's

Happy Halloween from everyone at Bloc Design. Between deadlines we found time to have a bit of fun during lunch with this years 80's themed Halloween with a few trivia games, costume contest, and plenty of candy. We realized we definitely are not mentoring the millennials enough with 80's culture, but they showed their resourcefulness on some DIY costumes. Let's just say trivia games were pretty interesting!

Corvian Community School is Nearly Complete

Construction is nearly complete for the upcoming school year for the 70,000 sf facility, which will provide additional space for their middle school and high school programming and classroom space. Bloc Design provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services.   

Mecklenburg County Intake Rooftop Plaza

Construction is nearly complete for the new rooftop plaza renovations located in front of the Mecklenburg District Attorney Building along 4th Street.  This 35,000 sf plaza is located across from the Sherriffs Department building. The project consists of a renovation to an existing green roof plaza which is currently a large uninviting space consisting of turf grass and concrete.  Teamed with Terracon, Bloc Design designed the new plaza space to accommodate seating areas, ornamental trees in raised planters, plaza pavers, and a colorful mix of sedums, grasses, shrubs, and perennials. 

Atrium Health's Pineville Campus

Construction is moving quickly for the new medical office building at the front corner of Atrium Pineville.  The project consists of a 110,000 sf medical office building and parking deck expansion.  Bloc Design provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services.

Update for Atrium's Levine Cancer Institute

June 01, 2018

Construction continues for the new $100M 7-story 260,000 sf Levine Cancer Institute facility expansion.  Located on the Atrium Main Campus in Charlotte, the project is situated at the corner of Kenilworth Avenue and East Morehead Street. The new building will provide more space for oncology practices, outpatient infusion therapies and specialty pharmacy services. In addition, the new facility will have two decorative vegetated green roof areas adjacent to the patient treatment areas.  Bloc Design provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the project. 

Bloc Welcomes Jordan Noblin to the Team

As a registered Landscape Architect, Jordan brings 12 years of extensive background in commercial and residential site design. His experience in the private and public sectors has helped him to establish his own key design principles that he uses when approaching projects of any scale. From project concept through final closeout, his persistence, enthusiasm, and dedication all play a vital role to insuring the delivery of a sucessful project outcome to the client.

Trinity Church Road Single Family

Bloc Design recently started construction documents for the 130+ lot subdivision located in Kannapolis, NC.  We provided master planning and rezoning services which recently won unanimous approval, and are now moving forward in engineering and permitting.  

RedStone Theater Grand Opening

RedStone Theater had its grand opening in March, as well as some of the retail within the development.  The large commercial development is located in Indian Land, SC at Highway 160 and Highway 521 near the Red Ventures campus. The project includes a new state of the art theater, as well as ample restaurant space and retail.  

Friday Field Trip - District Attorney's Office Rooftop Plaza

Friday Field Trip: A number of us from the office traveled to our project site at Mecklenburg District Attorney's plaza which is actually a vegetated rooftop garden. Kevin Gorman, the project manager, was giving us a tour and showing us the incredible amount of design detailing and coordination required to ensure a smooth construction process. This will be a transformation from a dull and desolate plaza to a lush enjoyable space. Looking forward to the finished project by May.

Atrium Healthcare Pineville Medical Office

March 19, 2018

Progress continues for the new medical office building along Atrium Healthcare's Pineville campus.  The new 120,000 sf office is located along the front near the intersection of Pineville Matthews Road and Park Road.  The project scope also includes the expansion of the existing parking deck to accommodate the additional parking spaces.
