The new soccer field and baseball stadium at Independence Park turned out phenomenal. Located just a few minutes from Uptown Charlotte, the views can't be beat. Bloc Design provided Civil Engineering services for this project.

Our Annual Company Outing just keeps getting better every year. This year, unlike the others, we decided to join both our Company Outing and Christmas Party into one big event. Although we had a few that could not attend, it turned out to be a memorable day full of fun times with staff and their loved ones. Everyone enjoyed time by the pond and even better... the skeet shoot.

Bloc Design hosted their 9th Annual Paintball Networking Event. Needless to say, it just keeps getting better every year! We want to thank everyone who participated and attended this eventful end to their week. Also, we want to congratulate our MVP (Most Valuable Paintballer) David Klausman. We play a number of unique team games but the last game is the MVP round. The rules for this round are simple: you are only out when you surrender, whether one hit or one hundred. Needless to say, that's when things get fun! Check out our video of some intense action.

Bloc Design recently participated in the one year walk-through at the Pine Valley Neighborhood Park in Charlotte, NC. The facility's program includes an outdoor fitness equipment area, playground area for children ages 2-12, two paved walking path loops, multiple picnic and seating areas, and an open play lawn. The project goal was to use a natural rustic theme. The team chose a Kompan set of structures, which use Robinia wood that provides significantly longer life cycles due to its density and rot resistance. Bloc Design provided Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture for this project. Located in South Charlotte, neighbors and the surrounding community enjoy the park.

We are excited to finally kick off our Bloc Book Club (still working on a cooler name). There is an often used phrase in leadership circles. "Leaders are Readers". We wanted to create a group that helped provide a framework of accountability to encourage reading (or in some cases listening) to books that help inspire, motivate, educate, and foster growth. The goal is to perhaps replace or minimize our habits of Twitter, the 'Gram' (as the kids call it), and other social media or web habits that choke our thinking and emotions with negativity, pessimism, and sometimes just pure insanity.

As our new Marketing Coordinator, she will be overseeing numerous marketing activities including social media, website management, print collateral, and various efforts in continuing to grow and enhance the Bloc Design brand in the marketplace.

Emily West is a recent graduate of Mississippi State University's Landscape Architecture program, a Bachelors of Science in Landscape Contracting, with a minor in Business Administration.  Emily gained great experience during multiple internships for various design firms, nurseries, and construction companies.  Her attention to detail, experience, and passion for horticulture will be greatly valued at Bloc Design.

Congratulations to Kingdom Development Partners and the team for kickstarting their new community, The Enclave at Enderly Park. Bloc Design provided Master Planning and Civil Engineering for the 15 lot single family development located at Plainview Road and Glenwood Drive in west Charlotte. The project required extensions of both Plainview Road and the implementation of a new public road and utilities within an existing CDOT right of way. The project consisted of significant coordination with the City of Charlotte regarding the road construction and utilities which were inaccessible to a street frontage.

Let's face it, 2020 has not been the easiest year. Throughout the battle we have all faced, we are extremely grateful for the tremendous progress we have made. Thanks to our clients and amazing staff, we managed to overcome it and have been stronger than ever. Nine years has flown by so fast to say the least. We are beyond thankful to have had the opportunities to get our team where we are today and look forward to seeing what the next year will bring us.

Our annual Thanksgiving Potluck and Packing Party for Operation Christmas Child was a huge hit this year. The team sure enjoyed gathering around for a family meal and selecting toys for each of the children. We also learned when you have a team of creators and throw in the Pictionary game, things get pretty interesting.

With all of the festivities in the office this month, we had a pretty close vote on the best pumpkin, but the costume contest was tough to beat! Bob Ross just could not be defeated. Between Pumpkins A and C, C was in the lead by a hair, but it turns out, "we ain't afraid of no ghosts"

Leafspring School, an upcoming daycare facility located off Statesville Road in Cornelius, celebrated with their Ground Breaking Ceremony and is currently under construction. Bloc Design provided Rezoning, Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture Design services for this project. Construction is expected to be completed by late Summer of 2021.

Construction was recently completed for Piedmont Community Charter School located in Gastonia, North Carolina. The new facility will serve as the high school campus branch. PCCS focuses on college preparation, academics, character, and community. The new high school will hold 600 students. Our firm provided master planning using SITEOPS, schematic design, design development, construction drawings, and construction administration for both civil engineering and landscape architectural services.

Carmel Country Club recently broke ground on a new 22,000 sf facility expansion, as well as interior renovations, which included a new outdoor plaza area overlooking the golf course.  The plaza contains multiple seating areas, fire pits, event lawn, and lush landscaping.  Bloc Design provided landscape architecture and civil engineering design services. Construction is anticipated to be completed Spring of 2021. 

Dennis Terry joined the Bloc Design team as a Senior Project Manager. Dennis  brings over 24 years of well-rounded experience as a landscape architect, and has worked on numerous complex and diverse projects in the Charlotte, NC. A native to the Charlotte area and NC State grad, Dennis has a long-standing reputation of dependability, responsibility, and a strong dedication to projects and clients.
