LTACH Rooftop Therapy and Healing Garden

Pineville, NC

A 2017 North Carolina USGBC and 2015 North Carolina ASLA award winner, the rooftop therapy & healing rooftop garden was designed to assist physical therapists with training their patients and preparing them for the transition back to home living. The project site is located atop the new 92,000 sf Pineville LTAC & Rehabilitation facility on the campus of CMC Pineville.

In addition to providing landscape architecture and civil engineering services for the main facility, the design team collaborated with Carolinas Rehabilitation therapists for programming, and provided numerous conceptual designs for the “intensive” rooftop garden which incorporated the following design elements: various paving types (concrete, pavers, stairs, turfgrass, etc), herb gardens & raised planters for patient therapy, cognitive elements such as aroma and textured plantings zones, engraved paving medallions, putting green/multi-purpose lawn with synthetic turf for occupational and cognitive therapy, outdoor seating areas for patient, non-patient, and employee enjoyment, and lush landscape design with year-round interest.
