A joint venture between Carolinas Rehabilitation, Carolinas Specialty Hospital, and Atrium Health, the new 92,000 square foot facility located on the campus of Atrium Pineville includes 69 beds, offices, indoor therapy areas, outdoor patio seating, and lush landscaping. Bloc Design provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services for this project, which also includes an award winning healing garden designed to assist physical therapists with training their patients and preparing them for the transition back to home living. Design elements include various paving types (concrete, pavers, steps, turfgrass, etc), herb gardens for patient therapy, cognitive  elements  such  as aroma and textured plantings zones, engraved paving medallions, and a putting green. Numerous conceptual sketches with various options were created from the team for the client. Bloc Design provided a high level of research into creative uses of the space to achieve the therapists goals.
